On June 1st, the first official day of us living in our new home, Z headed off to his yearly two-week long training with The National Guard. Z carrying me over the threshold

(Mom requested a picture of him carrying me over the threshold before he went…you know, for the scrapbook page which will inevitably be created.)

Z leaving meant that I was left on my own to tackle a house full of unpacked boxes and a living room which looked like this:

Living Room

Good thing organization is my strong suit.

While I love my husband dearly it was probably for the best that he wasn’t around during this time. I was able to focus on the task at hand: find a place for everything and everything in its place.

Mom ventured down the weekend after to play with cats….I mean…help me unpack and decorate.

I really need to give him a name…

After a long weekend we made major progress and got the house feeling more like a home.

I couldn’t wait for Z to see what I was able to accomplish in the two weeks he was away. It was basically like our own version of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition!

While there’s still work to be done, here’s what Z was able to come home to:

Now that the house is put together, and Z is back home, we can actually maybe take a minute and enjoy it.

I want to know…

Is there a special knick-knack/ piece of memorabilia that you display in your home? If so, what is it and why is it special?
